Militants blast goods train in Assam

GUWAHATI: Suspected Ulfa militants on Monday morning blew up a goods train between Lakwa and Safrai stations in Sibsagar district of Assam derailing 14 empty wagons and disrupting railway traffic between Dibrugarh and Guwahati section, though no loss of life has been reported.

GUWAHATI: Suspected Ulfa militants on Monday morning blew up a goods train between Lakwa and Safrai stations in Sibsagar district of Assam derailing 14 empty wagons and disrupting railway traffic between Dibrugarh and Guwahati section, though no loss of life has been reported. The goods train was coming from Tinsukia to Katihar in Bihar.
Officials of NF Railway while talking to TNN informed that the blast took place at about 2.50 am on Monday morning derailing 14 empty wagons after the engine and two wagons had crossed the site of blast.

The officials informed that due to the blast trains between Dibrugarh and Guwahati have been suspended which includes Rajdhani Express, Brahmaputra Mail and Intercity express till the damage is repaired which is likely to take 40 hours from the time of blast as the repair work has already commenced at the site.
The officials could not give exact extent of damage till the filing of this report.
